اعرف وطنك : جرش .. كرنفال الفرح
جرش هي مدينة أردنية، وعاصمة محافظة جرش وأكبر مدنها. يقطنها قرابة 41,500 نسمة من اصل 153 ألف نسمة يقطنون المحافظة. تبعد عن العاصمة عمّان حوالي 48 كم إلى الشمال. تقع جرش في الجزء الشمالي من المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية. وترتفع عن سطح البحر قرابة 600 م. يمكن الوصول لها من عمّان عبر المدخل الجنوبي أو الشرقي، ومن عجلون من الغرب، ومن اربد من الشمال. وتقع جرش في واد أخضر تجري فيه المياه. وكانت آثارها وما تزال محجة الزائرين ومحط أنظار الرحالين والسياح والعلماء وطلاب المعرفة من جميع أنحاء العالم. مرت على المدينة عصور عديدة، منذ عصر اليونان فالرومان ثم عصر الفتوحات الإسلامية ومن ثم دخلت دفتر النسيان إلى ان تم اعادة اكتشافها في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر.
ويروي المؤرخون ان اهل ساكب وباقي اهالي القرى القديمة في جرش هم أول من اسس مدينة جرش الحديثة في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر، حيث كان زلزال عنيف قد دمر اجزاء كبيرة من هذه المدينة سنة 747 ميلادية كما ادت الزلازل المتلاحقة ومعها الحروب والفتن التي ضربت المنطقة لاحقا إلى دمار اضافي اسهم في خرابها وبقيت انقاضها مطمورة في التراب مئات السنين إلى ان اكتشفها الرحالة والمستشرق الألماني أولريش ياسبر زيتسن سنة 1806 للميلاد ليبدأ التنقيب عنها واعادة الحياة إليها لتنهض (جرش) الحالية على يد اهل القرى ثم تلاهم بعد 70 عاما جالية من المسلمين الشراكسة الذين هاجروا إلى الأردن من بلاد القفقاس عام 1878 للميلاد اثر الحرب العثمانية الروسية. وجالية كبيرة من اهل الشام في بداية القرن العشرين.

هي مدينة الآثار الرومانية، ذات التراث الحضاري العريق، وإحدى المدن الأثرية القليلة في العالم التي حافظت على كل معالمها حتى اليوم، فمازالت ساحات المدينة وشوارعها وأعمدتها ومسارحها الأثرية شاهدة على العهود اليونانية والرومانية في (بومباي الشرق) جراسيا القديمة .. جرش الأردنية الجميلة.
تتألف جرش من شوارع معبدة ومعمدة، ومعابد عالية على رؤوس التلال ومسارح أنيقة وميادين وقصور، وحمامات، و نوافير وأسوار تفضي إلى أبراج وبوابات. وبالإضافة إلى طابعها الخارجي اليوناني-الروماني، فإن جرش أيضا تحافظ على مزيج من الطابع الشرقي والغربي في آن واحد. إن هندستها المعمارية وديانتها ولغتها تعكس العملية التي تم فيها اندماج وتعايش ثقافتين قويتين وهما العالم الروماني-اليوناني في منطقة حوض المتوسط والتقاليد القديمة للشرق العربي.
وفي أيامنا هذه يستطيع الزائر أن يتجول بين هياكل المدينة ومسارحها وحماماتها وشوارعها المبلطة ذات الأعمدة الشامخة والتي تحيط بها كلها أسوار واسعة النطاق. وقد عثر علماء الآثار في داخل هذه الأسوار على بقايا مستوطنات تعود للعصر البرونزي، والعصر الحديدي، ولعهود اليونان والرومان والبيزنطيين والأمويين والعباسيين، مما يشير إلى إقامة الإنسان فيها منذ أكثر من 2500 سنة

Archaeologists have found within these walls the remains of settlements dating back to the Bronze Age and Iron Age, the eras of the Greeks and Romans, Byzantines, Umayyads and Abbasids, which refers to the establishment of the rights for more than 2500 years
