وتقع هذه المنطقة، وهي الأشهر في برية القدس، جنوبي الكيلو 16 من طريق القدس-أريحا، وتضم أثرا قديما مميزا أخذت المنطقة منه اسمها، وهو الخان الأحمر، الذي كان نزلا للتجار والرحالة، وللمارين عبر برية القدس الممتدة حتى البحر الميت، وللقادمين أو الذاهبين من حواضر عربية واسلامية كدمشق الشام.
